Dr. Sara Hammel Karner is originally from Clayton, NC. She and her husband, Kevin, are so thrilled to be able to call Cleveland County their home and raise their sons, Pierce and Grey in such a friendly community. She graduated from North Carolina State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences. Upon graduation, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
Dr. Karner sets aside specific time throughout the year for her continuing education as a means to keep up with the many advances in dentistry, procedural and technological, by attending the astute Scottsdale Center for Dentistry. Studying under Dr. Frank Spear as well as with the CEREC faculty has allowed her to provide her patients with comprehensive, reliable oral health care with the most up to date techniques and equipment. She has completed dental implant placement and surgical training under Dr. Arun Garg and has traveled with his team to the Dominican Republic providing free dental implant and surgical services to those patients in need.
She remains active in organized dentistry by maintaining membership in her local Isothermal Dental Society serving as Secretary, North Carolina Dental Society, Academy of General Dentistry, American Dental Association and as a Fellow with the International Dental Implant Association.
Dr. Karner is proud to be a part of the Junior Charity League of Shelby where she is able to help serve her community with a special emphasis on clothing children in Cleveland County. She is currently serving on the Cleveland County Board of Health and enjoys participating in community outreach whether it be educating children at local preschools or volunteering at local Missions of Mercy Clinics.
